Protection of personal information

Learn more about how the CMQ protects personal information.

The Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ) ensures the protection of personal information that it collects, uses or discloses to third parties in the course of its activities.

What is personal information?

Personal information is any information that concerns a natural person and allows them to be identified, directly or indirectly.

That said, some personal information is public under the law. So it is not confidential. The following are a few examples of personal information that is public described in the Professional Code:

  • Information entered on the Roll of the Order;
  • Information concerning the places where a professional practices;
  • The names of people completing a period of training, the professional activities they are authorized to engage in and the place where they practice their activities;
  • The schedule of hearings of the Disciplinary Council;
  • Resolutions striking a member off the Roll of the Order or limiting or suspending the member’s right to engage in professional activities, except any medical information or information concerning a third person that they may contain.
